Hi all,
My Sachs 89 broke on me five times today and I think it's just too weak.
I'm thinking of moding my cassette to take a BMX chain, but don't know if it's worth it.
What chain do yous use, and should I use a BMX chain?
Thanks heaps!

The power link broke a while back, broke into 4 pieces...
Thesis days, it's always the pin slipping out, abd bending the plate at the same time.
Yeah I use that white lightning wax lubricant.
PS. if you suggest a chain to use, can you tell me how much it is, and where did you get it? thanks

Ah but this is where the PC89 is light.. but not as heavy duty as some heavier lower model chains, as I have learnt in recent months.
Get a PC49 or something. and check your chainline.. I moved my Ultegra cassette out (ie away from spokes) , took out a gear n put in a spacer. Better

Get a Sachs PC49 or PC48, they work fine for me. I think Koxx make a heavy duty BMX chain, but you would have to check on www.biketrialsaustralia.com coz they sell Koxx kit.

don't attempt to rejoin chains that have punched pins (ie all modern mtb chains). BMX chains you can rejoin, but BMX powerlinks are so strong you don't need to. Wipperman connex chains (and powerlinks) are the only ones that have held up satisfactorily under trials for me. I've used SRAM, shimano and taya as well, wipperman kicks them all. but BMX chains are better still.

ive been using a high end shimano chain since i got my king. best chain ive had, unfortunatly. Provided you use the joining pins they work fine. When i fucked around with chain lenght, and didnt use a joining pin the chain split wide enough to escape the pin.

rohloff are supposed to be fantastic, if anyone ever has the money for one, do a review...I seem to recall that you're looking at around $200au for one although that was before the importer started bringing in their speedhubs...might be cheaper now

I had a KMC cool chain, they are used by most trials riders here in UK. I had mine for a year before shearing a link in half doing a gap, want another as it lasted me a long time
