Hey I was wondering what is a good rear tyre to get? a 2.5?? 2.4?? and what make. There are these maxxis Bling blings which are $30 and look pretty good, would a 2.2 be too small for the rear wheel in trials?

tioga factory dh or white tiger michelin comp 24.1 or something kenda kinetic irc kujo or el gato and a whole lot more pretty much you just gotta find a balance of the right price/weight/grip/pinch resistance for you. fatter is probably better in terms of grip, but 2.2 should be alright, but it depends on the make because different companies have different definitions of tyre size.

have you heard about Specialized S-works 2,7''? .....it has good grip & you will ride with low pressure (0,75Ba)

ive got a kenda kinetis 2.35 (i think) on the back at the moment... it came with the bike (i actually have another one thats only been ridden on the front for a few weeks in the shed- might sell it to u if your interested..?) and as a rear tyre its pretty sweet. its just too heavy for the front, but as far as pinch resistance goes its not too bad... on that note, if pinch resistance is what you're after then take a serious look at the specialized tyres. i think there's one called a 'fear master' (theres a whole heap of good ones, but i think this is the best one as far as weight goes). i used to use it on my GT duallie b4 i sold it, and although a little weighty, you can run SUPER LOW pressures and NEVER PINCH FLAT! why? -because they have this little rim protector thingy built into them that is like an extra lip of rubber running between the sidewall and the rim. these are pretty damn sweet if u ask me (although the weight might be an issue- worth a look!) if grip is your game then i i have been told by reliable sources that michellin Hots are the stuff to get. (the red ones) ...fairly expensive, but theyre supposed to be sweet -joel? personally i'd steer clear of IRC as a rear tyre (except maybe the eL Gato -which i think is made for trials) the sidewalls on their tyres are just too thin to prevent it pinching. if you're on a tight budget then Tioga is sweet for the money. you can get Tioga DH 2.3's for around $40 at some shops in canberra (TLC i think does this ?) and im not sure how much the tioga White tiger costs (joel?) but it looks sweet as! for my next rear tyre im prolly going to get either a michellin hot s (i think michellin comp's are just too heavy -got one on my kona) or a tioga white tiger... or maybe ill just use my other kenda, seems to do the job hope this was in some way usefull charlie

irc kujos have pinch flat resistant foam or some stuff in them, and it works for a while and then just stops and you start pinching all the time. the new 2.5 hot Ss have quite thin sidewalls so be careful

ok, then i would prolly just get the hot S for the front, and forget about IRC for the rear all together.
as far as maxxis goes, i think they sound a bit sketchy... ive seen the highrollers and the octopus (which might be ok) but i'd steer clear of their cheaper ones (i hear they have a really brittle compund for their cheaper models)
if you ask me, i'd get the tioga white tiger (it looks sick 2!) or a kenda kinetic (but prolly the tioga). if weight is not a problem, then look at the michellin comp 2.5...

its probably that velocity psycho rim thats well heavy . i use a 1100 gram rear tyre with a mavic 521 and it seems pretty light to me . i reckon u should drill that rear rim, when u get smoother though . the thing that pisses me off about my bike is that the front end is so heavy!....ben, u should consider urself lucky, haha ...have u ever felt how heavy my damn front end is!!!!! shmeh, it still rides fine... how much do michelin hot s's weigh?

hey guys, i got a rear tyre off my friend Tim for $15 it is a brand new Tioga 2.3, it rides heaps good and was never used, still had the zip ties on it, he won it at a comp and it is worth around $45 at the shops mb even more, its good enuf for the price, i saved $85 not getting a Hot S, and the tyre is just as light as the Michellin Hot S if not lighter.

basically when you're looking at rear tyres the two most important things (in order) are sidewall thickness (tyre stiffness and resistance to pinchflats, is also generally correlated with thicker tread for less punctures and longer wear) and tyre width (for grip on stuff)
if you go into mals and try bending the sidewalls between your finger and thumb and see how strong they are in, say, a white tiger 2.5 or tioga 2.3 and then go from there (these are "strong" sidewalls I guess, like most downhill tyres"
I personally think that everyone using the same gear is silly and that as long as you know what you're looking for, you can choose whatever you like, it's all about experimenting...I very rarely use the same tyre more than once because I like to try different things (the only one I've used more than once is the tioga 2.3 - on my third one now)
Basically any downhill tyre will do, as Alex pointed out, things under 900g are generally too good to be true, and I don't go under 1000g because I like low pressure. I wouldn't use the hot S on the rear of a trials bike, especially as a beginner, you will get a fair few pinchflats and damage your rims unless, like the new generation of canberra trials riders, you're under 50kg :-)
if anyone wants my white tiger 2.5" with a little tread left, otherwise fine, they can have it for free, I bought a 2.3 to get some more tread
