ok, first of all you need patience! that is the hardest thing because everything always seems to slip and slide and get in the way and yeah, the first time is always the worst, but you'll just have to get ready to spend literally hours. First get to know how it all works, ie the bottom clamp with the evo adapter, then the cylinder/brake pad thing and then the top clamp. what you want to do first is find a good angle for your evo adaptor. the mounts for the different sides are not the same, but you can put either on either side, depending on which gives you the best position. so try both, you want it so when you put the cylinder in it, you can easily move it so the pad is about 2-3mm from the rim. (easily is probably not the most appropriate word here). next, turn the evo adapter (the bit that pushes against the frame) so that the mounts are more or less paralell with the rim. while you're doing this, get rid of all the boosters and stuff cause they really get in the way, oh and make sure you unscrew the red knob on the lever all the way (theres a little triangle which shows more/less, so u gotta turn it in the 'less' direction) well anyway, so now you know what angle to have your adaptor things, you want to actually clamp the cylinder things in place. go one side at a time, and screw all the bolts on loosely. the best way to have it is so you can move the cylinder inside the clamp, and it wont move back. once you get that you want the cylinder to be positioned so that its square with the rim and 2-3 mm away. oh yeah take note that if either the top or bottom bolt is fully tightened, you can't move the cylinder, so you'll have to keep both loose. when you think you've got it perfect, tighten both bolts, and you'll see that everything moved in whatever direction you didn't want it to, so you have to loosen it all up and start again, but this always happens so youll have to just play around untill its all good. then do the other side. fun. when its all tight and if you squeeze the lever it sorta stops the wheel. then get your boosters, and put them on one side at a time. Because you can undo the top bolt and the rest of the brake wont move, it shouldnt be too hard to put the booster on. to put your salsa one on i think willl be the same sort of deal, but i've never had a vee booster with a magura so i'm not sure.
i hope that helped a bit.
PS oh yeah taking the qr off was right, if you have two vee bolts. as long as they're long enough it should be all good. Oh and don't forget to put the two fattish washers between the frame and the brake, otherwise it'll be shit.

ok, first things first: i put it all on and my fingers are now hurting . i am angry, because i cant manage 2 get the pads in close enough, while keeping the mount parralel 2 the frame . i think it is because the pads are pretty much worn down to , when they are all the way in, those two claw thingys that stick out of the cilynder and FURTHER! i dunno maybe i havnt set it up properly . so pretty much the pads dont reach the rim. do i need new pads? (i would assume so)

yeah, you probably do. if you turn the red knob, do the pads move out a bit? if they do, turn it so they go further out than the 'claws'. Is the cylinder as close to the rim as you can move it? you can go all the way untill the bits where the tubes come out hit the mounts. Have you tried angling the plastic black things out a bit more? this brings the mount closer to the rim, but it also screws the angle up a bit, so don't do it too much. Also swapping the left and right mounts might bring it closer in. have a look to see if it will or not. Yeah it takes ages but when you get it set up they're as good as vee brakes.

don't be tempted to use the TPA to set up your brakes - have it dialed all the way out (pads AWAY from the rim)...basically your rim might not be quite wide enough to do it properly - this is a big design flaw with the evolution adapters. God knows how the XC riders do it. Anyway getting your pads aligned to hit flat onto the rim is very very important.

yeah...well i managed 2 get the pads in enough by doing what simon said : push the cylinders in and that worked well , but still i have the red knob turned as far as it will go and my brakes arent tight enough for me . i think those evolution adaptors are stupid haha . oh well as long as i have a mag that works well . i am just going to wait for charlies plaz 2 come in, because my v-brake was 10 times better i am pretty sure because i just NNED plaz haha .
thanks for everyones help i am still oing 2 get rowan 2 set it all up properly on wednesday but it will do for now .
THANKS!! cyall!

why would you assume that the echo booster was "better"? echo is a small company, based in china, that has existed for less then 3 years or so. Salsa is a high quality American manufacturer that makes many products for mountain bikes - a more demanding and competitive market. I believe the Salsa gear to be among the best out there and the Echo components to be ...moderate...at the moment...maybe after a few production runs they'll be better
