go to www.chainreactioncycles.com a PAIR of maguras is only $200 and $50 postage AUS$...if u get it from chainreaction i reckon get a pair its a better deal....so only $250 all up i think if u buy them here its like $500 or something . so yeah, www.chainreactioncycles.com . great site... |

charlie you don't need to go magura - why bother? you have high quality brakes already...
upgrade your cabling to avid flak jacket or similar
I can probably get you my plaz V pads if you like
upgrade levers if you want...
this is the setup I ran (with grind) on my PX and anyone who rode it will tell you it performed on a par with the best maguras around ! better I think...
so don't follow the crowd (seeebbb) and have some good brakes that don't need bleeding, aren't expensive (you already own them) and don't require a crappy mounting system...
in my opinion you should run the brakes that your frame is designed for. maguras on 4 bolt mounts and v-brakes on 2 bolts mounts. simple eh?

lol, i wasnt following the crowd...i simply think that hydraulics are kewel  and plus i reckon maguras are fun 2 set up and have a play around with ;D that is if u have alot of time lol |

you know that, deep down inside, you just want to run what everyone else does seb...good v-brakes kick arse and I wish I could still use my old set - Dan is it possible to get an echo pure 1100 with 2 bolt mounts?

well i know they only come in 1060 and 1080, and i just checked the website and they only come in 4 bolt mounts, zoo's come with 2 bolt mounts but im not sure how long they are, probably not as long as 1080. your magura is working fine isnt it joel? if its working then i wouldnt worry switching back to V's, i personally dont mind what i use as long as it works. it jsut needs to be powerful, both a well set up V or a wel set up magura will stop you great, i dont see why people get so defencive of one or the other. joel... the pure only comes in 4bolt magura mounts. The zoo does come in vee mounts (as well as a 4bolt version) and the wheelbase is 1050 (traditional trials length). Alex... hey bud! PPl get all fired up over brakes... after years of wasting time tryin to get em damned maguras to work as well as they did wen u first got em, so u get quite opinionated.  After bout 5 years of riding maguras(hs33 and disc), im now looking into goin bk to the simplicity and reliability of good linear pull vee brakes (xt/avid) !! Anyways discs are awesome for comp style riding (braking in all conditions!!) and my megamo is for sale... open to offers! WIll also come wif the FIRST PAIR IN THE WORLD.... PLAZMATIC GOLD DISCS!! ok... im out cyas fassi! |

whats the best levers for V's? (can u get RB's for em?) and how much are they, and also while im at it... how much does that flatjack cabling cost joel?

you can't get RB levers but I wouldn't recommend them for V's anyway unless they made an alum. perch to replace the crappy carbon one...
anyway I used avid SD5 lever...your calipers are really good charlie...why don't you call Mal's and ask about the housing price? I don't work there any more than you do :-)
I got mine in a 'whole bike kit' for $80 including heaps of outer, two inner cabling and lots of ferrules and stuff...I think you can buy just the outer in a per meter way...
but the best levers are avid (SD5, SD7 or ultimate - don't use the SD ti ones - flexy and breaky) or shimano (XT or XTR ONLY...no LX levers for rear brake)
and yeah...lube up the cabling so that there's almost no resistance when you pull it through the outer - makes a world of difference...

PS and grind your rim - grinds last for ages with v-brakes and on mags  As for the mag/vee war, in my experiance maguras need less adjustment but when they do need it it takes 10mins as oppose to 10secs. When you have a grind it realy doenst matter wheter you have good quality vees or maguras, they both stop the wheel. When i bought my maguras (i bought them before my bike) i got them to "jump on the band wagon" however if i had to buy a new rear brake, i would get them agian as they are so cheap. Dont ask me why but i have to say maguras dont work for sh*t on the front, i dont know why it would be any different on the front to on the rear but they are sh*t on the front. My XT Vee is working realy realy well on the front. Also, any one want to donate some middleburns to the fix my bike fund, please feel free to do so. If you dont already have them you can buy them off peace and then give them too me. |
