if i was u i would get a really strong mod, like a rhyno, and put new brakes and a new rear lever on . i think it ends up about $600-$700 . i think the raceline mod with origional everything is like $500 in the first place, and i think thats as cheap as they go, unless u go for second hand .

Hey Dude, Mod or Stock Hey Well it depends what you prefer, when i started out trials i went 20" cause that was what i was familer with as i use to do freestyle. I now ride a Brisa 20" (Soon to be Megamo)... My advice ride some friends bikes (of both sizes) and see which one you prefer and go from there, Mods are heaps of fun, but stock teaches you the moves man. i cant say anymore as i am bios and would tell you to go 20" Hope that was some help ~Sean

Seb,
When you know what the hell you are talking about, then maybe say something, people ask for help and that is what you tell them..... Great Help Dude.
Sherro, see what you like the best out of Mod and Stock after you have ridden both of them and then make a decision based on what you think feels better. Different people have different perspectives on what is better moves wise..... Mods are better on somethings and Stock are better on somethings, just the way it works.

Hey this is Ash using Seans login....
That aside....
Mod - Lighter and Cheaper (sometimes only) - With a mod, you gain advantage becuase they are lighter and easier to throw around, they also tend to be tougher and generally forgiving to mistakes, such as no mech to smash on things, stronger wheels, etc.
Stock - More variety to suit your body type and riding style. What I mean is that they are a mountain bike, so you will be able to find more options when choosing parts, and you can generally find something to suit your budget as well. You get a specific advantage when going to thin things like rails, because there is a larger portion of the wheel to land on before you brakes will slip (if you get what I mean), you also gain an acceleration advantage because the rear wheel is bigger.
On another note, you might not want to bother with racelines because they come with crap parts, and they have been discontinued from what I here, so forget warranty.
Take Seans advice, try before you buy if you can....
~ Ash!

hey sean hmmm, sorry for that post then...., but its true, to me, i find that mod actually is easier to ride trials with, and i have ridden it before if thats what ur thinking . and i did give some advice, and it sounds a bit like what ash is saying about mod's being cheaper and easier to throw around, but i deleted my message for u anyway....but i just said what i think . and when i said debate, i meant a friendly debate just to get go into which bike is better in a bit more depth so that maybe some1 could get something out of it...

Seb,
Well i apologise for snapping at you if you only meant good things by your post.... Don't ever say you are going to start a debate cause it will only start an arguement and that the last things everyone wants.
My Apology's to you and everyone else

lol
I bought a rhino and i think it was a good choice, however i probably would now prefer to have bought a higher range bike either second hand or even new. When buying second hand especialy interstate you nevrer know quite what you are going to get. If i was going to get a mod i would look very seriously at seans brisa mod. Just some of the parts values:
Hope mini - 500ish? Forks - 400 Frame - 1000ish i would guess Magura - 250 Brisa Bar and Stem - 200 and then you have to include wheels, cranks, hubs, chain, freewheel, grips etc etc. He has only had it for about 3 months so it is fairly new.
Whatever you buy make sure it has no cracks before you buy it particularly if it is aluminum.

Sherry,
I ride stock but (many don't know this :-) my first trials bike was the 1st gen rhino mod, back in the day.
this is the run-down as I see it:
mod is great to start on as it teaches you the moves more easily than stock, is cheaper, easier to ride, harder to break, easier to fix/maintain.
many people, after they learn the moves, go to stock cos it's more fun...particularly for people who are a bit taller mod just doesn't cut it when you get advanced...
but as seb sez, just try others' bikes because you might hate mod ...
it also depends on where you started, do you ride 26" bikes now or 20"? this will change your opinion...

Well i say stock cos i love stock, stock is the greatest stock stock stock. Then there is mod....... thats all i have to say about them. hahahaha just kidding ppl. Stock bikes are more versatile, smoother to ride and personally i think they look better (everyone saw daves bike right? and check out mine:D) So there you have it. Mods ARE easier to learn on but stock are just a lot more fun in my opinion, not as twitchy better for street... you know. If you can find a really cheap mod then go for it but other wise ride some of the guys bikes in canberra and see what you like best. Peace
