no dude I was sort of joking about all the measurements, there's no way an Australian bike is going to have Italian, French or Swiss measurements. The easiest way to measure thread pitch with a ruler is to count the threads in a distance of 1 inch. This gives you a threads per inch (TPI) figure. If the threads per inch are 25.4 then you have a 1mm pitch.

don't worry about the TPI. There's nothing else it can be other than 1.37" * 24tpi English thread. Fortunately for you that's what everything is now.

I'm actually going to put the BB and cranks from my dad's XC bike for now. I got the tools this arvo, pulled the cranks out. But i can't get the BB out, is it "reversed" thread ?

drive side is reverse threaded, pretty sure it's drive side. either way, when the pick is upside down you push towards the chain stays with the spanner if you're pushing down from above.

the driveside turns clockwise to undo it. This is because of the rotation of the bearings in a bottom bracket - they tend to unscrew standard-threaded drive-side BB cups.
the non-drive (left) cup is a normal "lefty loosey" direction.

thanks for that guys.
Got the BB out, screwed it in the Speedwell with the cranks. The bike has a smal BB shell so i cant screw in the BB completly. Tensioned the chain and ..... rode it !
The gears arn't in great working order right now, probly just needs adjusting and a new cable. Only two of the 3 gears work (now) when I set the shifter on : "1" , there's no transmition.
Can any bike shop fix the gears up ?

you can get a 5mm spacer for the BB (which i assume is 73mm) to make it fit
