I have heard things from boiling the pads to baking them in the oven to rubing them on concrete to buying new ones.
EBC are suppsoed to have some schmick ones for trials, i cant rmemebr if they are red, green or gold.

hayes cable discs aren't renowned for being that good, if you want a decent cable disc the only real option is avid - anyway if you upgrade your lever and cable it might help - boiling and baking the pads is only really useful if they've been contaminated (normally hydraulic disc systems contaminate the pads, shouldn't be such a problem with cables) with something oily or similar.

hey dude, before i started to ride trials i rode a dmr with tripple clamps and on the front my hmx1's were working like shit. i tried everything and finally took the pads out and then rubbed them on the sandstone pavers in my back yard in the opposite direction to wish they grip on the disc.. after i scratched them up real good i put them back in and i fare dinkum thought they were hydros they were soooo awsome... u should try it!!

Just a warning, if you boil/bake/burn etc the pads you are in danger of screwing up the adhesive that holds the pad to the backing. Which usually happens under load eg. nose wheely which could equal a very sore face.
But yeah, filing/rubbing on bricks etc usually works a treat to ruff up the pads

ride down a big hill with your brake on, then pore water on. alternatively, ride round with your brakes on then throw water on josh

It's true that you can also put coke on your rotors , because coke eats all the grime and shit of your rotors. they squeek a bit but eventually they stop. Or maybe thats just for cleaning rotors? anyway its worth a shot
