Gday! I've got a bit of a problem trying to set up my single speed gearing of my "new" bike, I'm using two SS spacer, a SS cog, a SS chain and a derailleur to tension the chain.
It works ... but it slips/skips. When a push hard on the pedals, the gear slips. I've checked the cog, chain, rollers, chairing, played with the adjustments on the derrailleur, but nothing seems to work.
I know people quite often use derailleurs as tensioners, so it should work ... altought this is a temporary solution, I will be getting a proper tensioner soon.
Any advice would be very much appreciated

make sure the jockey wheels on the derailleur line up with the cog on the hub. also check the chainline between the front chainring and rear cog to make sure that is straight aswell.

will you take this bike to school on tuesday? Other than what JoelO said, I can look at it.

Yeh, the chain line is reasonably straight. Everything seems to work fine when I spin the cranks by hand (when I'm not on the bike). So I don't know ... maybe the derailleur is bent ?
I also tried to tune it by using the index adjuster and testing different cable tensions, but that didn't seem to help.
I was planning on riding it to/at school on tuesday, but I wouldn't be able to do much on it as it is.

are the chain/chainring and sprocket all new? Using worn drivetrain components with new ones will result in skipping like you describe.
