i think u clean it off with window cleaner on a cloth and just wipe it oround your rim until there is no black coming off your rim onto your cloth.

OK Seb, having seen and ridden your bike I know none of these guys are right in your case...the three things you need are:
A. a brake booster...you have powerful calipers and levers and flexy seatstays...you can see the frame flexing away from the wheel when you apply the brakes...this causes the pads to have a low maximum pressure on the rim...you can get a booster for 40 bucks...I recommend the velocity booster from mals
B. clean rims...you seem to understand this already...just keep 'em clean...
C. good cabling...you don't have to spend a lot on cables to upgrade your brakes hugely...I spent 80 dollars and got a full avid flak jacket kit but you can buy quality brake cable outer per metre from mal's for cheap. make sure you specify that you need high quality stuff (eg Avid or Jagwire, not the normal black stuff)...also make sure there isn't too much friction in the cable pull itself... using triflow or grease on the brake cable before it goes into the housing helps the feel a lot and gives you more control...
hope this helps you seb...DON'T USE TAR ON V-BRAKES...it doesn't work the way it does on maguras...and you will screw up your expensive plaz pads...if you need to grind get someone else to do it first time, my rear rim is ground...don't grind the front rim...your front brake is excellent...never felt one better...no changes needed there believe me !
also make sure you use a full length cable outer - right from the lever to the brake it has to be one single piece of cable outer, no exposed cable

is my frame flexing supposed 2 happen, or is it not good? i will buy a brake booster as soon as mals get a velocity one in, they only have some crappy carbon fibre stuff. yeah, cleaning rims is good, xept i have 2 clean them every time after a ride, especially the front one. it allways gets all black on the front rim . it is poor coz i also need a new bashring and i only have $30 at the moment, but i might be able 2 get more , i dunno.
thanks for your help, c yaaa

the flexing is not good, but most bikes do it, and the echo isnt the beefiest of bikes. definately get a booster, they are good. dont buy a bash ring - they cost at least like 70 bucks, i bet it will cost a lot less if you get a machine shop or whatever you call them to make one for you, because its pretty much a circle of aluminum with five holes. i did work experience at anu and got to make a cnc one there for free, so that was even better, but then it got stolen along with the rest of my old bike. you can even try to bodge one up yourself but it depends on how good you are at that sort of thing.

hey yeah well i am waiting for mals 2 get a velocity booster in, and if they have one on wednesday i can get my mom 2 pay 4 it when i get my dereilleur fixed . well, i am just absolutely poor at shop work, ironically, will just make do with this bashring, as long as it does its job, and will keep unbending it, while i clean my rims and all that.

oh yeah and your bike is so light, how could your bashgaurd be made out of lead? Also seb, if you buy a new bashgaurd, buy the middleburn one (with the cranks) $385.

my bike is light even with a lead bashguard. thats how light it is. but yeah those immos ones do look pretty fat (i think thats what you're talking about) but that james guy at the comp had a bash that suck out sideways like that as well and he said it rubbed his ankle so much it hurt to ride, so i dont know.
