grip tape would get pulled off in seconds... best thing to do is buy a set of v brakes (avids sd's -ask rowan at mals which is the best value SD -they have a whole heap of different types/numbers... 7?) then you should buy some good quality pads for them -i use koolstop thinline (the grey ones-good compound) for the front and back. They work really well on the front, but they slip a bit on the back unless u use tar. so get some plazmatics for the back brake - www.thetrialsinshop.com -i think im going to place an order for some soonish, so tell me if u want some. i wouldnt really recommend tar, as it makes your rims heaps dirty and stops working after a while (which means u have to spend ages cleaning the rims and then putting more tar on). i used to use it, but when i get my pads i wont anymore. im not too keen on grinding either -makes the sidewalls of your rims weaker, + u will eventually have to re-grind the rim -making it even thinner again! rowan suggested to me that i use the roughest piece of sandpaper i can find (30 grade is the best i can find so far at school) and just rub it into the rims. another way is to get a hacksaw blade and scratch up the rims that way -just remember to take off the tire first! hope this helps charlie
