got an email from rod smith about the new calander and how many comps we can have here.
i was thinking that we should have a comp just b4 xmas or one just after xmas, natural sectionsbut where maybe belco when the rocks have been drained and cleaned and refilled. also another idea is trying to get an annual indoor comp during winter for like the start of the season. any ideas for where, halls stadiums that sort of thing, pcyc halls, sheds, but first well have to try to get sponsors to pay for all the hire,
potential sponsors: stegbar pcyc bike shops food suppliers hoyts wreckers building suppliers jb hifi AIS canberra tourism any ideas?
i think that finding sponsors is the first thing and then the venue. the major sponsor will be my job for the next few weeks if any one else want to help they can send me any email not reply to this with a list of sponsors venues and i will compile a big list and then source the numbers to call
so 1.sponsors 2.venues 3.obstickle suppliers 4.food stuffs cheers craig

I think that getting 5 elite sections out of belco might be difficult. Getting PERMISSION to use Belco would be difficult. I think that sponsors are a secondary concern unless we're doing a completely man-made comp (god knows that's a LAST preference)

as far as sponsors go, try asking shooters or mooseheads. i know that moose sponsors all the uni colleges for sporting activities (inward bound etc...) and shooters has just started sponsoring the hockey club i play for... so might be worth a look.

Firstly, as a Melbourne rider, why did I click on the "Canberra riders" message? Secondly, that red writing is cool.TEXTwow, can I do it too!!TEXT
In regards to sponsors, I think Mac Beth is looking at stuff like that in Syd so rather than everyone in every different city/state doing it alone, why don't we try and co-ordinate it as an Aus-wide thing? Sure, Mooseheads would probably only be concerned with Canberra (and all the ADFA cadets that go there) but bigger co's would probably be more willing to listen/fork out cash if we approached them as a national sport. You may have been thinking this, but just incase... The ideal scenario I think would be a big national sponsor for all national rounds and local sponsors to kick in a extra in each state/city for national rounds and local comps.
There's my 5 cents worth,
Scott.

I had another thought today Craig, there's a huge cycling "festival" happening towards the end of the year in the ACT somewhere. The roadies, mtbers and BMXers are all involved, and CORC is no doubt organised the mtb thing. I was considering offering our services for a demo, but a comp would be even better and would be excellent exposure with people coming from all over OZ for this thing. Perhaps if one of us were to contact CORC or mtba to express our interest, and if we could check out the venue for natural potential (even if only 1 or 2 sections worth, that's 5 tons less crap to haul). I think we should do something in association with this thing though, and we might get support from mtba/corc if we did a comp.

Yo Craig,
Yes, getting big co's on board would be harder. Dorgo has approached people like Chep and Rocla (I think) and I know they've supported trials before with obstacles so maybe they are the type of people to get in touch with. Even people like Thorpeedo Water who sponsored us for the St Kilda Festival (granted that was a big festival with 1,000's of people watching, but hey, it's worth a shot) may be worth contacting again.
Scott.
