I'm in the beginning middle of refurbishing my road bike. I really want to sort out the BB and i've got one crang off (drive-side) but can't get the non-drive off. It has a few big nuts on it and it looks like one could be connected to the crank arm but i'm not sure. will i need a tool? I could always go to the bike shop that is about 50meters away but I would prefer to do it myself if i can and not embarrass myself. I've also taken the fork out because I want to do something paint wise with it, since the paint is flaking off in places. I was thinking of stripping it and polishing it up (if it looks nice) and then varnishing it, or painting it a colour. What do you think?

You need a crank extractor, but if but dont care about the crank you can go crazy with a hammer. How did you get the other one off??
With the fork you can try pollishing but the fork wont look that great if you clear coat it and most of the time will start to rust under the clear coat. The best cheap option is WHite Knight Rust Guard from Bunnings. It is what I used on my pashley is tough as powder coat and costs 12 bucks a can. It's what Neal Bates use on their rally cars' under carriage, wheels, rollcages, Only problem is that the colour choice is limited to about 10 colours

mmm yummy. I'll be painting this here Battaglin bright red. I have a crankset for you if you like (the one I was grinding the pressed ring off of) which is 165 and a 39t. Matched perfectly to the 15t fixed sprocket I now have available for you !
As for the crank, older ones were held onto the BB with a bolt so you'll need a 14 or possibly 15mm socket or my Park CCW 14/15 tool. And then a crank extractor/hammer.

Crank off, everything regreased but i'm missing a bearing. Adds to the charm. I am keen for fixed now actually. We have to set up a ride with Andre. I bought new tires and bar tape too, might do it like the black bike above, only half way up the bar.

oo nice Bianchi (?) I see you found fixed.org.au. Andre and I are the latest two members. Brakeless huh? I wholeheartedly agree but will be riding behind you. That last Battaglin you posted is gorgeous. Love the compact cranks and classic look fork. The paint job on mine is an amateur job, as mine will be. I will take a little more care and MUCH more taste than the last painter though. Everything looks perfect underneath it. Without further ado I present my $41 Battaglin: 56k beware: - Joel

What are you going to do about preperation for paint? is this the one you are sending off or are you going to do it yourself? Looks like a nice ride, and all the paint seems stripped in the hardest spots.

I'll be doing this one myself I've decided. I think Andre will be on board as a consultant as he's done at least one frame before. I used a scraper and wire brush to get the paint out of the tricky bits, I can use sandpaper/scourer to get the paint off the tubing. I'll also buy a little torch to make the braze-ons braze-offs (all the little cable guides, hangers, etc ruining the look of the whole thing). I'll be getting what looks to be a significant order from my new favourite shop - www.kookiebikes.com - consisting of a seatpost binder bolt, hatta NJS headset, Nitto NJS stem, Nitto b123 NJS bars and perhaps a seatpost. - Joel

I hope you don't lop the b123 bars off (I know you wont) because they are hot - the same as in the chrome bike above?

man do you ever learn quick - yes they are the same and no I absolutely won't be lopping them off. 600g steel sprinter's bars. I'll be wrapping them like so: www.fixedgeargallery.com/articles/diamondweave/and be running this bike brakeless - 42/16 gearing on 165mm cranks. - Joel

My fork so far, I wont begin my frame until I have an angle grinder. I really would like to have this clear coated by a pro because it came up nice and shiney but fuck it. I bought chrome paint, which was probably a bad idea but might so the bottom part of the fork with it. Not sure on frame colour yet.
