hey, does anyone know of a place that could "re-thread" my cranks ? Or is selling/giving away a crank or crank set ?
Cheers, chris

if it's a truvativ crank I wouldn't bother. They're ISIS right? I have a pair of specialized (they're an American company so this is the correct spelling) 4-bolt square taper cranks you could have - which means you could use the same ring/bashring. But you'll need a square taper BB for those.

yeh, they're Hussefelt Isis Drive
"square taper", so my "taper" is like star shaped, right ? If want I understand is right, and if a square taper BB isn't too expensive, then that may be a vey good option !
Thanks a lot, chris

a square taper BB such as a shimano should set you back no more than $50-$60. That's a new one - somebody else may have a 113mm lying around? I don't happen to at the moment.
Your "taper" isn't really tapered enough to call it tapered. And yes, it is a 10 point star shape.
Square taper has a 4-sided taper instead, onto which the crank slides, tightening as it goes.

Ok, i guess that's not such a bad price to get me going again ... Are those Specialized cranks good, like say compered to my ISIS and how long are they ?
I'm gona find out about "re-threading" my hold ones, but it might be even more expensive.
Cheers, chris

they are 175mm long and pretty standard issue forged cranks. Nothing special but they'll work.
Find out about re-threading and replacing the insert.

i'll probly go check for my at ISIS cranks tomorow at fyshwyck.
But i think i've actually got a square taper BB that a could take of a Treck bike (3700). What tools would i need ? crank remover ? Are there different size BBs ?
Thanks again, chris

there are different size BBs but as it's probably a 68 * 113mm I imagine it will be fine.
as for re-threading the cranks, it's not a standard, it's a fairly obscure 9/16" * 20 tpi. That's the acual pedal thread, not the insert thread on the hussefelts. I have no idea what that is.

okay, but what tools would i need to get the BB out and the cranks off ?
so are you saying that it would be very hard to "re-thread" ?
the ideal would be to find a heli-coil that would replace the old insert but be a bit bigger to lock into the new thread ... i'll try and find that tomorow

that sounds like a good idea, it depends on the thickness of the insert. Helicoils you can get from specialty fasteners at fyshwick. 9/16 * 20tpi remember.

I went to Speciality Fasteners, no luck, no helicoil fit, asked about welding but the insert, the pedals and the cranks are different metals, so thats not possible.
So I think I'll go with your cranks ... if that okay with you. But I'll need some tools, I'm thinking about buying this toll kit :http://www.torpedo7.com/page/bikes/PROD/_Gift_Ideas/ACT900 70 bucks and it seems to include everything i need, and more. Any comments on that product ?
Cheers, chris

that looks pretty good actually. Be careful using those spoke keys on seized nipples but other than that, good kit. The stuff will be made by Lifu, who make cheap but decent tools. Yes it will have everything you need to do the job. Unless you have a truvativ BB.

I've got a Truvativ, Giga Pipe, ISIS BB, does that require a special tool ? I just realised something else, that kit dosn't seem to include a crank remover !
