Hello CORC Members
Just a couple of quick notes to keep to highlight a some important events happening in the next couple of weeks and over the coming months.
CORC Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The CORC AGM will be held at 8pm on Wednesday 3 May 2006 at the Ainslie Football Club and I would encourage all members of the club attend (there are over 450 of you now!). This is a great opportunity not only to have your say in the way the club is being run but also, if you wish, to become more involved in arguably Australia’s best mountain bike club.
At the meeting all committee positions will officially become vacant and any member may stand for any position.
These positions include Club President, Vice President, Treasurer (& Public Officer), Assistant Treasurer, Club Secretary, Membership Officer, Assistant Membership Officer, Cross Country Coordinator, Down Hill Coordinator, Assistant Down Hill Coordinator, Social Rides Coordinator, Advocacy Officers, Junior Development Officer, Women’s Development Officer, Marketing Officer, Dirt Crits Coordinator, Equipment Officer; Coaching Coordinator, Clothing Officer, "Website Coordinator " Newsletter Coordinator and General Committee Members
Please come along and have a say in the future direction of your club
CORC AGM - 8pm Wednesday 3 May, Ainslie Football Club
Mount Stromlo Development
Over the past 18 months CORC has been working hard with the ACT Government to ensure that Mount Stromlo will again be a Mecca for mountain biking in the ACT (and Australia for that matter). Over this time we have secured over $300,000 in government funding for the development of mountain biking in Stromlo Forest Park. All of this money will be used to build over 30km of International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) standard single trail.
The single trail planned for Stromlo have been designed by the world renowned trail builder Glen Jacobs ('96 Cairns Worlds, Sydney 2000) in partnership with CORC. Plans include a world class Mountain Cross course (the first one in the ACT), a wicked downhill, and a series of fabulous cross country trails designed to cater for all. We may even throw in a stunt or three for the free riders amongst you out there. The potential for the development of Stromlo is almost endless with plans for another 45km of single trail and a 2nd extraordinarily long (I mean really really long) downhill trail already on the drawing boards.
However, despite the money, these trails (your trails) can’t be built without around 3500 hours of volunteer labour, and the Canberra Off-Road Cyclists needs your help. Please consider donating some of your time on the nominated weekends to participate in the trail working bees, even if it is only one or two days during the project it will help. In fact if every member attended just two 6 hour working bees we would have our Mecca built in no time at all .
Glens team will be cutting much of the trails using heavy machinery, while CORC volunteers will be responsible for "polishing", ripping out a weed there, placing a rock here, perfecting a berm on that corner. Glen will of course be on hand to teach, help and supervise the entire process.
CORC will be organising a series of working bees from May 2006 to January 2007 to assist in the building of new trail. A draft timetable is below. These dates will be finalised and published (along with the new Stromlo Forest Map) on the web (www.corc.asn.au) very soon.
Again I would encourage you all to be involved. If you can attend one, some or all of the working bees, please register your interest by sending an email to stromlo@corc.asn.au with your details and the working bees you are interested in attending. The more you get involved the better the final results will be.
Oh and don’t forget to ask your mountain biking buddies along too, after all it will be their trail also
Most information is on the CORC website, www.corc.asn.au, check it often, it is updated regularly.
Anyway, that’s all from me for now, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to drop me a line or give me a call.
I look forward to seeing you at the AGM on 3 May, on one of the working bees over the coming months or out on the trails (I am the short guy on the KHS).
Keep on riding
Cheers
