well the new bike is looking like a go-er. this is where i will ask any questions i have along the way (there will be many) aswell as updates on how the bikes going and anything else.
current build forecast black echo pure frame undecided fork (hopefully black) red hope xc hubs red echo rear rim undecided front rim DT something or other spokes joel recommended, black if available red hope headset (open to suggestions on this) magura hs-33 rear brake vp pedals middleburn cranks ( black arms with red bashy) truvativ BB provided it fits, otherwise something else, most likely FSA plat. pro my old kona stem until i work out what length and rise i want undecided on bars
thats all i can think of right now
questions this time are crank length, what are people using and comments on this
also rear cog, between king, surly, endless and anything else what would you choose, all can be had for similar (almost exactly the same) price and all aluminium, what would you choose?

170 or 175 for the crank length. 170 probably as that's what you're accustomed to. The surly cogs are great, and actually available unlike the kings. About half the price, and the distributor has them in stock. Don't use aluminium cogs ever. Steel only. Chris King headsets can be had for $170 delivered if you know where to get them from (I do) so I wouldn't bother with a hope unless it's under $120 or so.

fair enough. does mal's or any other canberra bike shop get the surly cogs in, and rough price estimate?

anybody can get them from dirt works. If you like, I can get one from bike culture in O'connor, who are my fixed gear people. the 16t I got from them recently was $51. A quote from another shop would probably be closer to $60-$70.

No worries. I just discovered that there's a velodrome in narrabunda. Might have to take the fix out there in 53/14 mode. Evidently it's famous for being made incorrectly, with the banking too steep and the transitions to the flats too sudden. yikes. trikes. don't ask why there are now two pictures of a velodrome in your thread. - Joel

i remember my uncle saying something about trying to ride his recumbant there and it being to unstable to get up to speed to stick to the corners. well actually i almost don't remember, which is why that may not have made sense.

I knew there was a reason I kept the 53 off my crankset. Sounds like a hoot for when/if I ever get my surly.

Alright, rather than put this above the norco for sale i'll just put it here. My hs-33 arrived today but it has evo mounts, does anybody have any 4-bolt mounts they are looking to sell. also how difficult are they to bleed? i think thats all for now, also looking for a booster if anyone has one they want to sell.

I don't have any 4-bolt mounts. I don't "do" hydraulic systems either sorry. Alexx and I tried to top up his hs33 once. It didn't work.
