Hi, what would be a good choice for a hub ... Use: jumping and "urban" riding Budget: depends, could stretch a bit, but around the 120 $ mark would be good Needs to be: 135*10 bolt-up I'll be runing a SS setup on it, so SS hubs are more then welcome ! Will consider 2nd hand, so please let me know if you have one. cheers, chris

your best bet sounds like a thread-on freewheel hub like a surly or similar. This allows you to vary your freewheel with your budget. The White Industries trials freewheel will set you back around $200 and is a long-term investment, the ACS claws around $30.

Yeh, I was previously deciding between freewheel or cassette ... and was going for a cassettte hub.
But if my budget isn't enough to get a decent cassette one, then I'll just go for the freewheel.
What other "similar" hubs could you mention ? What are the prices of all these ?
thanks for the help

yeah that sort of thing. I think DMR make one as well. Any freehub at that price level will be very weak, fail quickly and catastrophically, and be impossible or very expensive to replace without replacing the entire hub.
The freewheel is your best bet. This way the freewheel mechanism, which is the weak point of trials bikes, is replaceable and upgradeable.

Really ... just to make sure we're talking about the same kind of hubs .... these are a few I had in mind : the DaBomb HS-R 10 Rear Hub, 67 bucks ! www.torpedo7.com/page/australia/PROD/hubs-mountain_bike/DAB-HUB-R10the Toughneck SS rear hub, about 140 I think Pushi had/have them, but they're website is currently being re-built, I think So would a freewheel hub such as a DMR Revolver or Surly SS with a decent freewheel (ACS claw) be supeiror to these previously mentioned freehub hubs ? thanks again

the dabomb hub is a freehub, no good. Still cheap, but it won't last. You're looking for singlespeed hubs which take a thread-on freewheel.

But there is still quite a few Brands/Models available ... are there any particular ones you would recommend ?

at your price point they're probably all made by the same companies. Joytech, Quando and Formula (all Taiwanese). Something with cartridge bearings and track nuts (with an integrated washer, like the Surlies) is a good start.

I won't be at the shop until next week probably, so can't check for you. Sorry. You can still go in though, Mal Adjusted at Dickson. If it's quiet you should be able to get someone to check catalogues for you. We don't have anything in stock at the moment, most shops are unlikely to as it's not a common item.

Bike culture in O'Connor stock the surlies. But I'd buy from Mal just cause he is a nice bloke if you can catch him when he's not busy.

I've done quite a lot of "looking around" and I'm down to these 3 : - DMR Revolver, 2 sealed/cartridge bearings and weigh 288g. RRP: $80.00 (not a 100% sure on that one) - NS Coaster SS, 2 sealed/cartridge bearings and weigh 350g. RRP: $134.95 - Surly "new hub", 2 sealed/cartridge bearings, unsure about weight and price. And the picture is a few posts up.

DMR looks nice and it has what are similar to CK Funn bolts. Much nicer to carry around an allen key than a 15mm wrench. Also looks more quality
