simon don't build it yourself unless you've built at least 10 other wheels before... you need a lot of wheel building experience to make a strong trials wheel, not just to get it straight and true but to know how to prep the spokes, the best ways of lacing etc etc...stress relieving during the build (also known as 'pinging') and how to make sure the spokes aren't twisted...and having seen your current wheel I imagine you don't care a lot for maintenance of a good build either...just get mal's to do it for 50 bucks...he'll give you a free wheel true with that as well - Joel I am still doing it myself If i have that sort of attitude i'm never going to be able to build 10 wheels so i wont learn anything. It is straight pull so the spokes aren't going to twist nearly as much as normal ones. It is straight pull so the spoke pattern is already set - the holes go in the same directions as the spokes. I know how stress relieve the wheel, grease the threads etc... If I have any problems i'm sure i can ask Rowan for advice. The reason my current wheel is in bad condition is that i've been meaning to get a new one for such a long time that i decided i dont need to touch the one i have now. The outside of the nipples were stripped before I bought the bike, and the rim was in awful shape, I used to true it all the time, but now i stopped bothering. Why would i waste 50 bucks when i can make a wheel almost as good and learn a lot from it as well. simon

it's up to you of course simon...
the first wheels I built were front wheels for my XC bike, which don't really matter, and just progressed up in strength and quality...I build my own trials wheels now with no problems...just make sure that you have a good quality spoke key (park tools $20 from mals) so you don't round out the nipples
good luck !
if you have trouble rowan, mal, me or ashley can help you
