i've got a 16T regular cassette cog or a 18T surly wide base cog you can have, can probably also find enough spacers for you aswellcan meet in the city or belconnen some time this week if you're keen.

would it be ok to run that 14t cog with a bmx chain ? with a standard shimano chain ? BOTH IN Single Speed
do you have chainrings, coz if i run the surly 18t id need a bigger one, i think, would the surly cog be better for SS ?
because its actually for a friend, im runing 32/14 and have tried 32/16, both of them are suitable ratios for street and Dj.
cheers, i hope all of this isnt too confusing

i have no 14T cog
the 16T i have is SS specific, not widebase though so it may damage the drive shell, i didn't have any problems but many people have.

yeh i ment 16T, whats a "drive shell", why would that happen, because of the type of chain, what cahin would be best suited ?
if a 18T was used what chain ring would be best for the front ?
thanks again

drive shell is the bit the cassette or cog slides onto, a single cog has less surface area and can dig into the drive shell.
36:18 is the same ratio as 32:16.
i don't have any chainrings at all, so nothing to give away.
my recommendation for chains is a 1/8" basic KMC chain, i used to get them from col's before they closed down. they were aboput 15 bucks each and worked well, never had any problems with them. if you want to spend a bit more money KMC kool chains are good, but there's been quite a few reports of them not working well with surly cogs.

cdfeto, i have no idea what i have in the wya of cogs + spacers. Get them of joel, any cog that fits on your cassette will be fine, dont worry if it has a wide base or not.

i was and didn't have any problems. it is a 3/32" cog, but i never had any problems running a 1/8" chain either.
