Hi, an old bike is sitting under my house and I'm thinking of repairing it...
Its quite a cool frame (wavy sort of design) i think its got 29" wheels and ... a 3 gear internal hub !
The only problem is that its got no BB and no cranks.
I thinks its a standard euro BB.
Is anyone here willing to sell me a cheap pair of cranks + BB ?
I try and ge some photos !

29" wheels? serious? 27" is "old" road bike, 28" is 645mm "older" adults bikes, 29" would be enormous.
by Euro BB do you mean English/Normal/MTB Bottom bracket?

measure the width of the bottom bracket shell on the frame. if it's 68mm, it's English/standard. 99% likely it would be anyway...
look on the sidewall of the tyre. See if you can find a size nomination - probably either 27" * 1 1/4 (630), 28" (622 or 645), 700c (622) or, if I'm really lucky, 26 * 1 1/4" (597). (if it's this last number, don't list on Ebay, contact me. I'm 99.999% sure you won't have it lying around though).

wavey sort of frame sounds interesting, check if the BB shell is actually threaded or not...I sense an OPC BB shell brewing...
and most importantly, pics. Lots of detail/close up pics.

do I mesure the inner or outer of the bottom bracket shell on the frame ? because the inner seems to be a bit smaller the 68mm. And it is threaded.
The wheels are .... (well thats what's written on the tyre's sidewall) : 26 * 13/8 .
The hub is a STRUMEY ARCHER, 3-speeds, as I mentioned before. The bike has a front logo thingy on the headtube, its just an "S".
Sorry about the photos, but i don't have a camera. But I'll get one soon ... off a friend.

is there another number on the sidewall? Either 590 or 597?
I daresay it's probably a Speedwell (Australian). 50s-70s without looking.

i looked everywhere on the frame to find something, and there it was : "Speedwell", on the headset sort of thing.
should a be proud/happy/excited to own this bike, now that I know its a Speedwell ?

yes, that was a popular style at the time - the Malvern star on that page being quite a popular and well-specced version. Does the bike have a shifter at all? Is it one of those cool dragster type shift sticks on the top tube?

also, Speedwell are now defunct, but are one of the two Australian brands to maintain a position in the increasingly competitive market right through to the 1970s. Malvern Star being the other one. Both companies produced bikes in Australia, from basic entry-level bikes right through to top end racers. I have two speedwells, nothing special, but I'm proud of them, and so should you be - going to restore it to riding order?
I have a pair of cranks you could use which would be historically appropriate.

Yes, it has got a shifter, its just a sort of small rectangular box with a single lever.
Yeh I do want to fix it up. I dont really need that much ... BB, cranks and maybe a cable for the hub.
And could be interested in those cranks, depending on the price and the price of a BB aswell. If its not too expensive, then my dad will probly pay for it, coz im a bit broke at the moement.

the BB will be a take-off from another, less savoury bicycle. I'll see what I have in "The Shed".

it's Italian, it's Cher-velo. In English it would be sir-velo. But it's not English.
